Much has been written of late regarding the demise of God. The latest salvo comes from scientist, Richard Dawkins, in his book, the God Delusion. Yawn.
Where, I wonder, was Dawkins when the funeral for the Judeo-Christian “sky God” was held decades ago? Hawkins: this is not news; get a grip. The God that intervenes in the affairs of men, listens to prayers and decides not to answer them, died to many of us ages ago. God is dead. Long live God.

What can anyone say about 911 that hasn’t already been said? But perhaps there is value in repetition. So here goes.
9/11 brought out both the best and worst of us as human beings, but I’d like to focus on the best.
Today, ten years to the day later, we are again called to remember and honor all those who died on 9/11. And many of us still have tears to shed, no matter how many we have shed before.

Back in the day, when I was in seminary, I took course at another Bay Area seminary which was, as my seminary was, under the umbrella of the Graduate Theological Union.
It was a course in mysticism, and the assigned text was–believe it or not–The Private Sea: LSD and the Search for God, by William Braden.
But these were the good old days: the late 1960s. This was also the People’s Republic of Berkeley. And we did things a little differently back then.

I was last writing about ASC, or altered states of consciousness, but had yet to define the term. To me, ASC, means seeing the world in a radically new and different way from how we perceive it normally.
I call our normal, and common, perception, “default reality”. While remaining in this reality we can agree with each other about most things other than politics, religion, and which vegetable we hate the most.
